The Newham Volunteer Scheme

The Newham Volunteers Scheme is designed to provide residents with support in training, learning new skills learning, combating unemployment and isolation, and helping them to get involved in the local community. Coordinated by the Newham Council, this programme provides a responsive and reliable volunteering service for a wide range of events from local activities at the heart of the community such as the Mayor's Town Show, the London Triathlon and the O2's culturally inspired Pyramid Project event.  These events provide invaluable experience for volunteers in the run up to the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games that will require 70,000 volunteer participants.

Newham's Children & Young People Plan

The Newham Children & Young People Plan (CYPP) is a single, strategic, overarching plan for all local services for children and young people up to age 19, young people aged 20 having left care, and young people up to age 25 with learning difficulties.  It provides an overview of how local services are delivered to Newham's Children and Young People to achieve the five national Every Child Matters programme’s aims: Being Healthy, Staying Safe, Enjoying and Achieving, Making a Positive Contribution, and Economic Well Being. Such a government initiative involves the Newham Council to work in partnership with agencies in the public, voluntary and community sectors, nurseries, schools and colleges, employers and above all, families and children and young people themselves.
